PARTICIPATION: Status: Development

In a cultural centre of Madrid, a group of people of diverse capabilities, social status and personal lives attends twice a week an acting course. Some participants have been attending for years but others joined only recently. Most of them have something in common though; they are women of a mature age seeking more than amateur acting classes.

During the last years the teacher was the young and enthusiastic Vicente, who was fully comimtted to the participants regardless of their talent. But now he started focusing on his own professional theatre company and his involvement has sensibly dropped. The participants, in denial, reject this change and try to keep this space in which the world outside temporary stops. In there, they can live and claim that part of them that is daily denied in their routine.

“Dig over and over in the same place. Do not look outside. Double, triple bottom of things...” (Robert Bresson, 1901-1991)
